We are most well known in Chetenham for our Fairtrade Shop & Cafe, which has been our presence on Portland St for neary 30 years.
It provides a meeting place for our memebrs and valuable experience of working with the public for our volunteers
Our core opening times are now Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 till 4.
Our volunteers are very reliable but occasionally have appointments, so if you are making a special journey you might like to call first and check, on 01242 577893
One of the delights of being involved in Global Footsteps cafe and shop is that things are always changing yet they stay the same. I know that's a cliche, but it really does seem to hold true at Footsteps.
One of the things that never changes is that the members of our small team cheerfully work their socks off to maintain a welcoming space with great coffee and delicious freshly prepared food. Severine's home-made soups are just the thing for a rainy winter day, but if you don't fancy soup we also do omelette, pasta and pesto, baked potatoes, toasties, pate and olives.
At the cafe we take hygiene very seriously. All our staff undergo in-house training which follows government guidelines and we were really pleased that at our last inspection our food hygiene rating went up from four to five, the top grading.
With new regulations we have also had to learn more about allergens, so if you're hungry but you have a food intolerance don't be afraid to ask.
Asking is also the key to our products in the shop. We have limited shelf space so we stock the things our customers ask for and buy regularly. If there is a grocery item we don't currently stock that you would buy from us, please ask!
And don't forget we can take one-off orders for items from Traidcraft and beautiful household goods from One Village. Order from us and you save the postage and help our work.
Regular customers will notice that we've changed the layout of the shop and cafe again to create space for a new range of goods. SafariAnt is an ethical fashion brand that aims to change the lives of young people in Kenya. The range includes handmade bead necklaces, colourful slippers and Masai blankets.
We are also hosting new activities. On Wednesday lunchtimes Makeda leads Mindfulness sessions, a great way to take time out in a busy day. We also hope soon to open on Sundays for regular African days. Watch our window space for updates
